CAPVERTHAITI, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and community development in Haiti, is currently engaged in a strategic collaboration with Florida International University (FIU), through its Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC).

As part of this collaboration, a series of structured activities are being conducted, including academic exchanges, strategic reflection sessions, field visits, and immersive experiences in innovative agricultural models such as agroecology, urban agriculture, and sustainable production systems. The objective is to identify and adapt practical approaches that can be integrated into CAPVERTHAITI’s model.
This initiative brings together respected experts and key contributors in their respective fields. Among them, Dr. Krish Jayachandran, an environmental microbiologist and soil scientist, plays a significant role in advancing agroecological practices. Dr. José Miguel Cruz, Director of LACC, contributes his expertise in international collaboration and public policy in the region. Additional contributors, including Professor Nicolas Andre and members of the Haitian academic and community network in Miami, are also engaged in this process of dialogue and co-development.
The program’s schedule, both intensive and diverse, creates a strong environment for learning, knowledge exchange, and the identification of meaningful partnership opportunities. It reflects a shared commitment to transforming ideas into actionable initiatives, while remaining grounded in the realities and challenges of Haiti.
“This collaboration represents an important step for CAPVERTHAITI as we continue to position ourselves as a bridge between local realities in Haiti and global expertise,” said Ejymson Valmir, President of CAPVERTHAITI. “Our objective is not only to learn, but to translate this knowledge into concrete, sustainable solutions that can have a real impact on the communities we serve.”
This initiative is made possible through the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI). Thayana Prézil, operation manager of CAPVERTHAITI and a 2026 YLAI Fellow, is leading this collaboration and serving as the organization’s representative throughout the program.
In parallel, CAPVERTHAITI’s President, Ejymson Valmir, is working closely with Thayana Prézil on the development of this collaboration and will participate in selected key discussions, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to building strong, results-oriented partnerships.
Beyond the ongoing exchanges, CAPVERTHAITI expresses hope that this collaboration will lead to concrete and lasting partnerships. At a time when Haiti continues to face significant challenges, initiatives like this represent more than a project — they are an investment in the country’s future.
As the work continues, the ambition remains clear: to transform this collaboration into structured actions capable of generating real and measurable impact in Haiti.
